If you have a group of close friends that you hang out with regularly and you’re running out of ideas what to do when you meet up, here’s an idea. How about trying strip poker? While this game isn’t for everyone, as you need to feel comfortable enough in your skin, in a right group of people strip poker can be a lot of fun.

Depending on how you decide to play, the game can even help you build stronger bonds with each other. While it may seem a bit intimidating at first, strip poker isn’t that scary. You just need to play it with friends that accept you for who you are. That way, you’ll avoid any unpleasant situations while having a blast at the same time.

Setting the Stage for an Evening of Strip Poker

You and your buddies have probably been able to set up regular poker nights on the hook. You’re sitting around, doing nothing special, and somebody suggests playing some cards. There is no reason for anyone to really refuse. With strip poker, things are a bit more complicated and setting a session up will usually require a bit more effort.

You’ll need to gather about an even number of guys and girls. That way, neither group will feel threatened. Hoping to set it all up on the fly is a bit optimistic. If you want to invite people over to play strip poker, you’ll need to let them know ahead of time. That way, only the ones who really want to do it will come. Even in this situation, expect a couple of people to back out at the last moment.

Defining Strip Poker Rules

Unlike the regular poker, which is played with chips or cash, strip poker rules are harder to define. First of all, you’ll need to decide on the type of game to play. Two of the most popular ones are Five Card Draw and Texas Hold’em. Both can be a lot of fun, but Texas Hold’em variation can get complicated and lead to some arguments.

Five Card Draw

Five Card Draw Poker is one of the first poker variations most of us learned. It features fairly simple mechanics, as there are only two rounds of betting: before the first deal and after the draw. This makes it an ideal candidate for a strip poker night. The most a player can lose in a single hand are a few items of clothing.

Of course, you, as a host, will need to make sure the game is fair. That means everyone has approximately the same number of clothing items on them. If someone has a lot of accessories like watches, jewelry, etc., this gives them a big edge as they’ll be able to take these off one by one, without risking anything.

One variation that everyone should be fine with is for the hand winner to simply pick one person to remove one item of clothing. This can make for a long game, of course, but you are all there to have fun, so there’s no rush. Deal a standard Five Card Draw hand, have people make their draws and proceed to the showdown. The winner picks who will remove one item. If you want to speed things up, you could also do it so that everyone but the winner undress after the hand is over.

Texas Hold’em

Texas Hold’em has multiple betting rounds: before the flop, on the flop, turn, and river. This makes it super exciting to play in a casino, but it can complicate things when it comes to strip poker. With so many betting going on, you’ll need to figure out the clothing items’ value. Since most action will happen in hands between a male and a female player, there might be some discrepancy in what they are wearing.

If you have experience with setting up strip poker nights, you can always give Texas Hold’em a shot. If you are trying it for the first time, you should probably keep it simple and stick to Five Card Draw. The last thing you want is an argument if two socks and a watch are of the same value as a shirt.

Setting up the Atmosphere: Keeping it Friendly

Once you know what the game will be, before you start, you should make sure everyone’s relaxed and comfortable. A few drinks should do the trick, especially if you are already used to one another. The important thing is to keep the atmosphere friendly and relaxed. Even the most open of people can feel a bit awkward about strip poker, especially when playing for the first time.

Make sure everyone’s comfortable with the rules as well. Some people will just not be fine with stripping all the way. If a majority of players in your group want to set a limit at underwear, that’s fine. Don’t try to push things to the point where people are forced to walk away even though they had every intention to play.

One thing that can really spoil the game is if everyone keeps picking the same player to undress over and over. If this starts to happen, the game will lose its appeal and the person who is being targeted will feel awkward and uneasy.

Strip Poker Can Be a Lot of Fun

With the right group of people and good rules, strip poker can be great fun. Sometimes it will reveal hidden crushes, create great memories, and it will give you a lot to talk about during your next night out. There is no need to make anything overly complicated, as the main goal is to have fun.

You can use guidelines in this article and adjust the rules to fit your group. Unlike regular poker, you can play strip poker in any way you like. It won’t spoil the game one little bit as long as everyone’s comfortable with the rules and no one feels like they are being singled out. After you’ve done it a few times, it will become much easier to gather people, and you might even find new players looking to grab their seat in your home game!
